52 Week Portrait Project – Week One

Here we go. Week one. You may have seen that on Instagram I announced that I was going to take part in a 52 week portrait project. Well, here are my first two portraits. I chose the kids as I’d really love a close up of how they change this year so I can compile an album at the end of the year to look back on!

Wren is two and eight months and Iver is 3 and half months new. The time with both of them is so fleeting and fast. Some days when I’m on my own with them I will it to end, for it to be bedtime because the day was just so damn hard. And then when they’re snuggled up, and I’ve got my jobs done, the house straight, I miss them… most of the time I just fall asleep but there are the nights where I catch an outgrown vest, or a tiny pair of socks and it hits me like a train. They’re growing, and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

Iver Anthony Ferguson
3 1/2 months old

For these shots I used my Olympus OM-D EM10 mark III and  my Olympus M.Zuiko 25mm lens. The settings I used were Program Shooting, allowing me to alter the shutter speed and apperture but mainly keeping the camera in an auto mode. ‘P’ allows for some creative control, which I like on these darker days. I find experimenting with my camera much easier when the days are longer and lighter. It was around 2pm on a sunny day at home when I took these shots and I love how the light falls on their faces. I’m really looking forward to the coming months and playing with the light more.

Please remember to tag me in your portraits on Instagram so I can see them. I can’t wait to see everyones work!

Your babies are so gorgeous. This is a fantastic idea for a project, and one I suspect you’ll look back on as one to treasure come the end of the year. Happy new year, Sarah!
