Last week i was lucky enough to be invited to be So Stobo at Stobo Castle in the heart of our wonderful Scottish Borders, with my mum for a day of pampering. We were asked to come along to experience the Celebration Spa Day that has been introduced as part of Stobo Castles 40th Anniversary as Scotland only destination Spa. Of course, you don’t ever have to ask us twice to attend Stobo so we jumped at the chance. A full day of pampering was just what we needed. We looked forward to our three course lunch, treatment and a sample of the delicious mocktails in the new Cocktail Bar.
On arrival, the castle looked beautiful amongst the misty setting. We made our way inside and checked in at reception, receiving the times for our treatments, lunch and the allocated numbers for our lockers. Both mum and i have been to Stobo before so there was no need to show us around, but the added map and kind offer of a tour is great for new comers.
We made our way to get changed in to our complimentary slippers and wrap up in the fluffy robes before settling into the main square for a coffee (we had left very early after all) The coffee was served hot and delicious and was just what we needed before we took a stroll around to find our first stop.
We made our way first, to the relaxation room. Silence, comfy beds and the intention of ready a few pages from our books we’d brought with us. Mum managed far more than me as after around 4 pages, i fell asleep for approximately an hour. I must have needed the rest as when i woke up i was ready for a good dip in the pool.
Unfortunately as i’m pregnant i couldn’t enjoy the outdoor hot tubs, sauna, steam rooms or hydrotherapy pools but a good dip in the pool over looking the lovely landscape was perfect for my buoyant belly. Mum enjoyed the hydrotherapy pools, making use of the great high pressure massage hoses. Always fab for tense neck and shoulders. We both bobbed around for a few lengths and then decided to dry off before lunch, this i was really looking forward to!
Lunch is served in the dining rooms in the castle. We were presented with a set menu with options for starters, mains and desserts. Both of us chose the Melon and pineapple with seasonal Berries for starter. Although we are now into September the berries were still delicious and the melon was lovely and sweet.
We chose very different main courses, Mum had a wonderful curry and i chose from the salad buffet. I didn’t want to over do it on the main and not be able to move or breathe afterwards. A salad of salmon, prawns and delicious dressings suited me just fine. Mum’s curry was divine! Very light and fruity with a gorgeous cucumber yoghurt. The mini popadoms were lovely and the portion was perfect should you be looking forward to an afternoon swim.
We indulged in desserts of course. Mum, a bread and butter pudding and i chose death by chocolate cup filled with white chocolate and ginger fondant… oh mercy! Both were delicious but i struggled to finish mine myself. I’d highly recommend stopping for lunch at Stobo whether you are in for a spa day or not. The food has never disappointed us!
After lunch we decided to enjoy our complimentary cocktails in the new bar found on the second floor of the castle. A beautifully tropical room decorated with wonderful pineapple lamps and bamboo features. If only the weather had been better i would have sworn i was in the Bahamas. I must also mention the lovely Brian, who catered to our needs and made a wonderful Mocktail recommendation for us. We both about fell into our glass!
We finished up our cocktails and headed to the main reception to wait on being called for our treatments. Luckily mine was tailored for my round belly and i got to experience exactly the same wonderfulness my mum did. The Top to Toe Face and Body Glow is an uplifting and rejuvenating all over face and body treatment, commencing with a deeply nourishing exfoliation to renew skin regeneration and incorporating the Express & Glow Facial. The skin is left feeling ultra-smooth, hydrated and looking radiant. The sugar scrub was divine and the smell coming from all the products was unreal! It’s great that you’re given a list of the products used and you can purchase them at the Spa shop! I think i floated out of the treatment room i felt so relaxed and clean. Mum and i sat in the reception for a short while before gathering our things and heading for home. We were both in the mood for a long nap, relaxing really can take it out of you!
If you need to get away for the day, if you’re looking for a special gift for a loved one in need of a break or if you’re planning a special Birthday or Hen do perhaps, i’d highly recommend trying this Spa day out! You can get everything i’ve mentioned for £99 Monday-Friday (pp) or £114 on Saturday or Sunday (pp)
Stobo really is something special and it really does make you feel out of this world or as they say in the bizz… So Stobo.
